Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. The CJIS Security Policy requires MFA for remote access to CJI or for accessing systems where CJI is stored or processed. The MFA solution must meet specific requirements outlined in the policy.

The required level of MFA depends on your organization’s implementation. While phishing-resistant MFA (AAL2) is recommended, it is only required for organizations using PIV-I or CIV-compliant credentials.

FIPS 140-2 certification is only required for federal entities or for organizations that implement FIPS 201 standards. Other organizations are encouraged to use cryptographic modules that align with FIPS standards but are not mandated to be certified.

CJIS policy encourages regular audits and ongoing monitoring to ensure continuous compliance. Many agencies conduct internal reviews annually or as policies and technologies evolve.

Non-compliance can lead to restricted access to CJI, audits, loss of funding, or legal consequences, depending on the severity and nature of the violation.

MTRIX America offers secure authentication and identity management solutions that help meet CJIS requirements — including MFA, phishing-resistant technologies, and FIDO-based solutions — to ensure compliant, efficient access to CJI.
